Welcome to the Triangle Area Rural Transportation Planning Organization (TARPO) web site!

This web site provides general information about TARPO and its administrative organization, the Triangle J Council of Governments (TJCOG). TJCOG serves as the lead planning organization for the continuous, comprehensive and coordinated transportation plan development for four rural North Carolina counties - Chatham, Lee, Moore and Orange. The core duties of TARPO are as follows:

1. To develop the long-range local and regional multi-modal transportation plans in cooperation with the four above Triangle Area counties and the North Carolina Department of Transportation;
2. To provide a forum for public participation in this rural transportation planning process;
3. To develop and prioritize suggestions for transportation projects, which the four rural Triangle Area counties believe should be included in the State Transportation Improvement Program; and,
4. To provide transportation-related information to local governments and other interested organizations and persons.

Information is provided herein concerning the various rural transportation planning activities performed within TARPO.

This web site provides an overview of the rural transportation planning process in North Carolina, a calendar of important committee and meetings that support this process and information concerning the governing documents for this process. This web site also provides direct links to the member organizations within TARPO as well to the North Carolina Department of Transportation staff who serve as liaison to TARPO.
